Product Information

Full details

The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 is designed for neutral runners seeking a high-performance, lightweight daily trainer that excels during tempo workouts and long-distance sessions. It offers exceptional energy return through its signature nitrogen-infused foam and carbon composite plate, making it an ideal choice for runners who prioritize speed and responsive cushioning. While the shoe provides excellent propulsion, its maximalist stack height may feel less stable for those accustomed to minimal, ground-feeling footwear.

FAQs

Is the Puma Deviate Nitro 4 suitable for a marathon?

Yes, its combination of responsive NITROFOAM and propulsion-enhancing PWRPLATE makes it an excellent choice for long-distance events.

Does this shoe provide stability for overpronation?

No, this is a neutral shoe designed for natural foot movement; it does not contain corrective features for severe overpronation.

How heavy is the Deviate Nitro 4?

The shoe weighs approximately 250g (based on a UK size 8).

Can I use these on gravel paths?

While primarily a road shoe, the PUMAGRIP outsole offers enough traction for light gravel or well-maintained paths.

What is the heel-to-toe drop of this model?

The Deviate Nitro 4 has an 8mm heel-to-toe drop.

Should I size up for this shoe?

The fit is generally true-to-size, but if you prefer extra room in the toe box for long-distance swelling, some runners prefer a half-size increase.

Troubleshooting

Feeling pressure points on the top of the foot

Adjust the lacing pattern to a 'window lacing' style to relieve pressure while maintaining a secure hold.

Outsole collecting debris

Use a soft-bristled brush to gently remove gravel or trapped dirt from the PUMAGRIP lug patterns after runs.

Upper mesh losing its shape

Stuff the shoes with dry paper or a shoe tree when not in use to help maintain the structural integrity of the engineered mesh.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Significantly lighter than previous generations
Highly responsive energy return from carbon composite plate
Excellent grip on various road surfaces
Breathable upper prevents overheating during long runs
Smooth transition due to the 8mm heel-to-toe drop

Cons

High stack height may lack stability for some runners
Performance-focused fit may feel snug for wider feet
Not intended for trail or highly technical terrain

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To maximize the life of your Deviate Nitro 4 trainers, ensure a secure, personalized fit using the traditional lace-up fastening. Since the shoe features a regular width and a rounded toe box, it is compatible with most standard foot shapes; however, runners with wider feet should consider wearing thinner socks to maintain comfort. Regarding care, avoid machine washing or tumble drying, as high heat can degrade the cushioning properties of the foam. Instead, clean the exterior with a soft brush and mild soap, and allow them to air dry naturally away from direct heat sources like radiators or intense sunlight.
