Product Information
Full details
The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 is a high-performance, neutral road running shoe designed for adult male runners seeking a balance of lightweight speed and maximum cushioning. By utilizing advanced NITROFOAM technology and a carbon-composite PWRPLATE, these trainers offer significant energy return and propulsion for both daily training and race day intensity; however, runners who require stability-focused support may find the neutral geometry less suitable for their needs.

FAQs
Is this shoe suitable for trail running?
The Deviate Nitro 4 is optimized for road running. While PUMAGRIP offers traction, the sole is not designed for technical, uneven off-road trails.
What is the heel-to-toe drop?
The shoe features an 8mm heel-to-toe drop, which is standard for most neutral running shoes.
Does this shoe provide stability for overpronation?
No, this shoe is designed for neutral pronation and lacks the medial support features required for severe overpronation.
How do I know if I have a neutral gait?
A neutral gait typically means your foot lands on the outside of the heel and rolls inward slightly to absorb shock, without excessive collapsing of the arch.
Can I replace the insole?
Yes, the insole is removable and can be replaced with custom orthotics if preferred.
How many miles can I expect from these shoes?
Most high-performance trainers of this type last between 300 to 500 miles, depending on your running surface and body weight.
Troubleshooting
Feeling of slipping at the heel
Adjust your lacing technique by using the top eyelet to create a more secure heel lock.
Outsole feels slippery on wet surfaces
Check the tread for debris or small stones lodged in the grooves; clean with a brush to restore traction.
Pressure points on the top of the foot
Try skipping the eyelet nearest to the pressure point when lacing to provide more volume in that specific area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Significantly improved energy return from updated foam
- Lightweight construction reduces fatigue
- Excellent grip on wet and dry road surfaces
- Secure lace-up lockdown prevents heel slippage
- Modern, streamlined aesthetic
Cons
- Not intended for runners requiring medial stability support
- Higher stack height may feel unstable to some on uneven terrain
- Requires a break-in period to optimize fit
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your trainers last, follow these guidelines:
- Fitting: Ensure you have a thumb's width of space in the toe box for comfort during foot swelling on longer runs.
- Lacing: Utilize the top eyelet (the 'runner's loop') if you need extra heel security.
- Cleaning: Hand wash with a soft brush and mild soap. Never machine wash or tumble dry, as high heat can damage the NITROFOAM structure.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent premature rubber degradation.
