Product Information
Full details
The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 is a high-performance trainer designed for neutral runners who prioritize energy return and speed during road training and race days. Featuring an updated lightweight build and advanced foam technology, it excels for athletes tackling tempo runs or long-distance efforts; however, its maximalist stack height and carbon-composite plate may feel less stable for those who require significant overpronation support.

FAQs
Are these shoes suitable for a marathon?
Yes, the Deviate Nitro 4 is designed as a performance trainer, making it very capable of handling marathon distances due to its cushioning and propulsion plate.
What is the heel-to-toe drop?
The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 has an 8mm heel-to-toe drop.
Can I use these for trail running?
These are primarily designed for road use. While the PUMAGRIP is durable, they lack the specific protection and lugs required for technical trail terrain.
Do I need to size up?
The fit is generally true to size. If you prefer extra room for long-distance swelling, some runners opt for a half-size up.
Are these for overpronation?
No, these are neutral running shoes. If you have severe pronation issues, you may require a shoe with added stability features.
How do I wash my Puma shoes?
Hand wash only using mild soap and a damp cloth. Never submerge them in a washing machine or use heat to dry.
Troubleshooting
Feeling pressure on the top of the foot
Try a different lacing pattern, such as the window lacing technique, to alleviate pressure points at the midfoot.
Heel slippage
Use the extra eyelet at the top of the lacing system to create a runner's loop (heel lock) for a tighter fit around the ankle.
Outsole collecting small stones
The multi-surface traction pattern is efficient, but if debris persists, rinse the outsole with water after your run to maintain grip integrity.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Significantly lighter than previous generations
- High energy return from responsive foam
- Excellent traction on wet and dry pavement
- Versatile for both speed work and long, easy runs
Cons
- Not intended for severe overpronation
- Carbon-composite plate may feel too stiff for recovery-only runs
- Maximal stack height may feel high for ground-feel enthusiasts
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To get the most out of your Puma Deviate Nitro 4, ensure you utilize the lace-up system to achieve a secure midfoot lockdown without restricting circulation. Because these shoes feature a carbon-composite plate, they are best suited for runners with a neutral gait.
Care Instructions:
- Always unlace the shoes completely before removing them to prevent heel collar wear.
- If the shoes become wet, remove the insoles and stuff the trainers with newspaper to draw out moisture; never place them in a clothes dryer.
- Clean the PUMAGRIP outsole using a soft brush and lukewarm water to maintain rubber stickiness.
- Rotate your trainers with another pair if running daily to allow the foam to decompress fully between sessions.
