Product Information
Full details
The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 is a high-performance, neutral road running shoe designed for adult male runners seeking a balance of responsiveness and distance comfort. Featuring advanced NITROFOAM technology and a carbon-composite PWRPLATE, this trainer provides superior energy return and propulsion, though its max-cushioning profile may feel too elevated for runners who prefer a more grounded, minimal ground-feel.

FAQs
Is this shoe suitable for trail running?
While the PUMAGRIP outsole is durable, these are designed primarily for road running. They are best suited for asphalt and light, well-maintained paths.
Does this shoe provide stability for overpronation?
The Deviate Nitro 4 is designed for neutral runners. It provides neutral support, so it does not contain the extra medial posts required for significant overpronation correction.
What is the stack height of the shoe?
The shoe features a stack height of 38mm at the heel and 30mm at the forefoot.
How should I clean the mesh upper?
Gently spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking the shoes to prevent damage to the interior cushioning materials.
How long will the foam last?
While durability depends on running style and surface, the NITROFOAM is engineered for longevity, typically providing consistent performance for 400-500 miles.
Troubleshooting
Feeling pressure points near the laces
Try an alternative lacing pattern such as a window lacing technique to relieve tension on the top of the foot.
Outsole losing traction
Check for debris embedded in the tread and wipe the PUMAGRIP rubber with a damp cloth to remove accumulated road grime.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent energy return from NITROFOAM
- Lightweight construction for distance runs
- Reliable multi-surface traction
- Stable carbon composite propulsion
Cons
- High stack height may feel unstable on extremely uneven trails
- Neutral support may not suit those needing heavy overpronation correction
- Requires break-in for optimal plate responsiveness
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To maximize the lifespan of your Deviate Nitro 4 trainers, ensure you use the lace-up fastening to achieve a snug, secure fit that prevents heel slippage. The shoe is designed with a standard width; if you have particularly wide feet, consider testing your fit with thin technical socks.
For care, avoid machine washing or drying, as high temperatures can compromise the structural integrity of the NITROFOAM and adhesive bonds. Instead, use a soft, damp cloth with mild soap to spot-clean the mesh upper, and air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. To ensure the foam recovers properly, rotate your trainers with another pair if you run daily.
