Product Information
Full details
The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 is designed for neutral road runners seeking a blend of high-performance speed and everyday comfort. Featuring advanced NITROFOAM technology and a carbon composite PWRPLATE, this shoe excels at providing maximum cushioning and propulsion for tempo training or race day performance; however, its aggressive stack height may feel less stable for those accustomed to minimal, ground-feel footwear.

FAQs
Is the Deviate Nitro 4 suitable for flat feet?
Yes, it is designed for neutral pronation, but it provides enough structure to be comfortable for many runners with varying arch types.
What is the heel-to-toe drop?
The shoe features an 8mm heel-to-toe drop.
Can I use these for trail running?
While the PUMAGRIP outsole provides excellent traction, these are designed specifically for road running and may lack the necessary protection for technical trails.
How long should I expect these shoes to last?
Typically, high-performance running shoes like the Deviate Nitro 4 offer peak cushioning for 300 to 500 miles, depending on your running surface and gait.
Does the carbon plate make the shoe too stiff?
The PWRPLATE is engineered to provide propulsion without compromising the natural flex required for daily training, though it will feel stiffer than non-plated trainers.
Troubleshooting
Feeling of instability during sharp turns
Ensure laces are tightened securely to improve midfoot lockdown and confirm you are landing centrally on the midfoot rather than the edge of the shoe.
Upper mesh collecting dust or debris
Once dry, use a soft-bristled brush to gently whisk away surface dirt from the mesh weave.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent energy return from NITROFOAM
- Highly durable, multi-surface PUMAGRIP traction
- Significant weight reduction compared to previous iterations
- Supportive yet neutral fit for varied foot shapes
Cons
- High stack height might feel unstable for some runners
- Requires a break-in period for the plate to feel natural
- Not intended for trail or technical off-road environments
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the longevity of your Deviate Nitro 4 trainers, follow these guidelines:
- Fit: Ensure you have a thumb's width of space at the front of the shoe to accommodate natural foot swelling during runs.
- Lacing: Use the standard lace-up fastening to create a secure, locked-in midfoot fit without overtightening.
- Cleaning: Hand wash only using lukewarm water and mild soap. Avoid abrasive brushes that can damage the mesh upper.
- Drying: Air dry away from direct heat sources, such as radiators, which can degrade the foam and adhesive components.
- Rotation: If running daily, consider rotating with another pair to allow the foam to fully decompress between runs.
