Full details

The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 is a high-performance running shoe designed for adult male runners who require a blend of speed and consistent comfort for everyday road training. FAQs

What is the primary use for the Puma Deviate Nitro 4?

These trainers are designed for everyday road running, tempo runs, and competitive race-day performance.

Does this shoe provide stability for overpronation?

No, this shoe features a neutral support design intended for natural foot movement rather than corrective stability.

What is the heel-to-toe drop?

The Puma Deviate Nitro 4 has an 8mm heel-to-toe drop.

Can I use these for trail running?

While the PUMAGRIP outsole offers good traction, this shoe is specifically engineered for road surfaces and may not offer sufficient protection on technical trail terrain.

How should I store my shoes to preserve the foam?

Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause the midsole materials to degrade prematurely.

Troubleshooting

Feeling of discomfort or hot spots

Adjust the lace tension. The secure lace-up system can create pressure points if overtightened; consider using different lacing patterns to relieve localized pressure.

Reduced traction on wet surfaces

Inspect the PUMAGRIP outsole for debris or mud build-up. Clean the tread pattern thoroughly to restore grip.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Significantly lighter than the previous generation
Excellent energy return from the NITROFOAM midsole
Highly versatile for both tempo training and race days
Reliable traction on multiple surfaces thanks to PUMAGRIP

Cons

Not intended for runners who require maximum stability or arch support
Performance fit may feel snug for some foot shapes
Requires proper break-in for the carbon plate feel

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the best performance from your Puma Deviate Nitro 4 trainers, follow these guidelines:

Sizing: Ensure you have a thumb-width of space between your longest toe and the front of the shoe to prevent discomfort during extended runs.
Break-in: While the foam is responsive immediately, perform a few shorter runs (3-5km) to allow the mesh upper and PWRPLATE to conform to your foot anatomy.
Care: Clean the shoes with a soft cloth and mild soap after runs in muddy or wet conditions. Never submerge in water or use a washing machine, as this can degrade the foam composition. Air dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources to maintain the integrity of the materials.
