Setup and First Use
When first using your Nike Pegasus Trail 5 Gore-Tex shoes, ensure you lace them correctly for an optimal fit. Start by loosening all laces, then slide your foot in. Tighten the laces evenly from the toe box upwards, ensuring a snug but comfortable feel. There should be enough room to wiggle your toes, and your heel should feel secure without slipping.
Compatibility
These shoes are designed primarily for trail running and hiking. They pair best with moisture-wicking synthetic or wool socks to further manage sweat and maintain comfort, especially given the waterproof nature of the Gore-Tex membrane. Avoid cotton socks, which retain moisture. They are compatible with various terrains, including dirt paths, gravel roads, rocky trails, and muddy conditions.
Care and Maintenance
To maximize the lifespan and performance of your Gore-Tex shoes, follow these care instructions:
- Cleaning: After use, especially in muddy conditions, brush off loose dirt. Hand wash with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the Gore-Tex membrane.
- Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use direct heat sources like radiators or tumble dryers, as this can damage materials and adhesives. You can stuff them lightly with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Re-waterproofing (DWR): Over time, the shoe's outer DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating may wear off. If water starts to soak into the outer fabric instead of beading up, you can reapply a DWR treatment specifically designed for footwear.
