Setup, Compatibility & Care To ensure the best results and longevity from your Dulux Weathershield Smooth Masonry Paint, proper preparation, application, and ongoing care are essential.
Setup & Surface Preparation:
- Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean all surfaces to be painted. Remove any loose dirt, dust, grime, flaky paint, mould, or algae using a stiff brush, scraper, and appropriate cleaning agents if necessary. Allow the surface to dry completely.
- Repair Imperfections: Fill any large cracks or defects with a suitable exterior filler. Allow to dry and sand smooth.
- Priming (If Needed): For very porous or powdery surfaces, a stabilising primer or a thinned first coat of masonry paint (as per manufacturer's instructions) may be beneficial. Info needed: [Consult product label for specific priming recommendations].
- Tools: Have a good quality masonry brush or a medium-pile roller ready. Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
Compatibility:
- This paint is specifically designed for exterior masonry surfaces including brick, concrete, pebble-dash, and render. Ensure the surface is sound and dry before application. It is not recommended for smooth, non-porous surfaces like glazed tiles or metal without specific priming.
Care & Maintenance:
- Routine Cleaning: While the paint contains `Stay Clean` technology and is mould/algae resistant, periodic gentle cleaning of your exterior walls with water and a soft brush can help maintain their fresh appearance, especially in areas prone to heavier dirt accumulation.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect your painted surfaces for any signs of damage or wear, particularly after severe weather. Address minor issues promptly to prevent larger problems.
- Storage: Store any leftover paint in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and frost, in its original, tightly sealed container. Do not allow to freeze.
