Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup (First Wear)
- Lacing: Utilize the secure double-lace lock system to achieve a snug, yet comfortable fit. Ensure laces are even and tightened progressively from the forefoot to the ankle. Avoid over-tightening, which can restrict blood flow or cause pressure points.
- Socks: Wear your preferred running socks to ensure optimal comfort and moisture wicking. The fit of the shoe can change slightly depending on sock thickness.
- Break-in Period: While HOKA Clifton 10s are generally comfortable out of the box, a short break-in period of a few runs is recommended to allow the shoe to fully adapt to your foot's unique shape.
Compatibility
The HOKA Clifton 10 is primarily designed for road running and paved surfaces. Its cushioning system and outsole pattern are optimized for these environments, offering excellent shock absorption and reliable traction.
- Surfaces: Ideal for asphalt, concrete, treadmills, and light, well-maintained gravel paths.
- Terrain: Not recommended for technical trail running or extremely uneven terrain, where specialized trail shoes with deeper lugs and more aggressive outsoles would perform better.
Product Care & Maintenance
Proper care extends the life and performance of your running shoes:
- Cleaning: Gently brush off loose dirt with a soft brush (like an old toothbrush). For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap (e.g., dish soap) mixed with cool water and a cloth or sponge. Lightly scrub the upper and midsole. Avoid harsh chemicals or machine washing, as these can damage materials and adhesives.
- Drying: Always air dry your shoes at room temperature, away from direct heat sources (like radiators or direct sunlight). Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store shoes in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures (e.g., in a hot car), which can degrade materials over time.
- Odor Control: Remove insoles after sweaty runs to air them out. You can also sprinkle baking soda inside the shoes and insoles to absorb odors, then shake it out before your next run.
- Rotation: If you run frequently, consider rotating between two pairs of shoes. This allows the cushioning to fully decompress and recover between runs, extending the lifespan of both pairs.
