Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Unboxing and Placement: Carefully unbox the machine and place it on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet. Ensure adequate space around the machine for operation and maintenance.
- Water Tank: Fill the water tank with fresh, cold tap water or filtered water if your tap water is hard.
- Bean Hopper: Fill the bean hopper with your preferred whole coffee beans. Avoid using oily or caramelized beans as they can clog the grinder.
- Initial Rinse Cycle: Follow the on-screen instructions for the initial rinse cycle. This primes the internal circuits and cleans any manufacturing residue.
- Grinder Calibration: The Bean Adapt system will guide you through an initial calibration or automatically adjust based on bean type. This step is crucial for optimal extraction.
Compatibility
- Coffee Beans: This machine is designed for whole coffee beans. Using pre-ground coffee is generally not recommended for the integrated grinder and may not provide optimal results.
- Water: Use fresh, cold water. Consider a water filter if you have hard water to prevent scale buildup.
- Milk: Works with various types of milk, including dairy and plant-based alternatives. For best frothing results, use cold milk.
Care and Maintenance
Regular care ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your De'Longhi La Specialista Touch.
- Daily: Empty and rinse the drip tray and coffee grounds container. Wipe down the exterior with a soft, damp cloth.
- Weekly: Clean the steam wand thoroughly after each use to prevent milk residue buildup. If milk dries inside, it can be difficult to remove and affect steaming performance.
- Monthly/As Needed: Clean the brewing unit (if removable) according to the manual. Perform a descaling cycle when prompted by the machine or as recommended by the manufacturer, using a suitable descaling solution.
- Bean Hopper: Periodically clean the bean hopper to remove residual coffee oils, which can become rancid and affect coffee taste.
