Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: Achieving Your Custom Fit
- Load the Pack: Before fitting, load your backpack with approximately 15-20 lbs (7-9 kg) of gear to simulate real-world conditions.
- Adjust Torso Length: Loosen the backpanel strap and slide the shoulder harness up or down until the top of the hipbelt aligns with the top of your hip bones (iliac crest). Tighten the strap to secure.
- Fit the Hipbelt: Place the hipbelt on your hips, ensuring the padding wraps comfortably around your iliac crest. Cinch the hipbelt buckle securely. Approximately 60-80% of the pack's weight should rest on your hips.
- Adjust Shoulder Straps: Tighten the shoulder straps until they are snug but not overly restrictive. They should contour over your shoulders without lifting the hipbelt off your hips.
- Engage Load Lifters: These straps are located above your shoulders, connecting the shoulder straps to the top of the pack. Pull them forward at about a 45-degree angle to bring the top of the pack closer to your body, enhancing stability.
- Custom Fit-on-the-Fly Adjustments: Experiment with the Hook & Loop adjustments on both the shoulder straps and hipbelt. These allow you to change the padding's angle and length for a truly personalized fit. Adjust them until pressure points are minimized and comfort is maximized.
Compatibility
The Osprey Aether 65 Extended Fit is compatible with various backpacking accessories, including hydration reservoirs (up to 3L, not included), trekking pole attachments, and sleeping pad straps. Its design is suitable for multi-day backpacking, thru-hiking, winter expeditions, and any activity requiring a large capacity and heavy load-carrying capability.
Care
- Cleaning: For general cleaning, wipe the pack with a damp cloth and mild soap. For deeper cleaning, hand wash the entire pack in a large basin or tub with cool water and a mild, non-detergent soap. Avoid machine washing or using harsh chemicals.
- Drying: Hang the pack upside down in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat. Ensure it is completely dry before storing to prevent mildew.
- Storage: Store your pack in a cool, dry place. Unzip all pockets and loosen all straps to allow air circulation. Avoid compressing the pack for long periods to maintain its shape and padding integrity.
