Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & Adjustments
- Donning the Jacket: Simply put on the jacket as you would any other.
- Adjusting the Hood: Use the integrated adjusters to tighten or loosen the hood for a snug fit around your face, protecting you from wind and rain while maintaining visibility.
- Adjusting the Hem: Pull the drawcords at the jacket's hem to cinch it in, preventing drafts and water from entering from below, especially when the wind picks up.
- Using Pockets: Utilize the two zipped hand pockets for securing small items like keys, phone, or snacks. Their higher placement ensures they are accessible even when wearing a hiking rucksack with a hip belt.
Compatibility
- Layering: The jacket's sleek fit is designed to be worn over light to mid-weight layers. For colder conditions, ensure your insulating layers fit comfortably underneath without restricting movement.
- Rucksacks: The high-set pockets are specifically designed to be compatible with most hiking rucksacks, ensuring uninterrupted access to your stored items.
Care Instructions
To maintain the performance and longevity of your Berghaus Stormcloud Waterproof Jacket:
- Washing: Machine wash cold (30°C) on a gentle cycle. Close all zippers and fasteners before washing.
- Detergent: Use a technical wash designed for waterproof breathable fabrics (e.g., Nikwax Tech Wash) or a mild liquid detergent. Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, and harsh detergents, as these can damage the waterproof membrane and DWR finish.
- Drying: Tumble dry on a low heat setting or air dry away from direct sunlight. Low heat in a tumble dryer can help reactivate the DWR finish.
- Re-proofing: Over time, the DWR finish may wear off, causing the fabric to "wet out" (absorb water instead of shedding it). Reapply a DWR treatment (spray-on or wash-in, suitable for breathable waterproofs) as needed, following the product instructions.
- Storage: Store the jacket clean and dry, ideally hanging, to maintain its shape and fabric integrity.
