The break-in period can vary, but typically it takes several weeks or a few hundred miles of riding for the saddle to fully conform to your shape.
Use a leather treatment specifically designed for bicycle saddles. Brooks Proofide is a popular choice.
Use the laced saddle flaps to adjust the tension. Tightening the laces increases tension; loosening them decreases tension.
