Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setting up your Sonos Five is designed to be straightforward, allowing you to enjoy your high-fidelity audio quickly.
Initial Setup
- Unpack and Place: Remove your Sonos Five from its packaging and place it in your desired listening location. Ensure it's near a power outlet.
- Connect Power: Plug the power cable into the Sonos Five and then into an electrical outlet.
- Download Sonos App: Download the latest Sonos Controller app on your iOS or Android device from your respective app store.
- Follow In-App Instructions: Open the Sonos app and follow the on-screen prompts to set up your new speaker. This typically involves connecting to your home WiFi network.
- Trueplay Tuning (Recommended for iOS users): If you have an iOS device, the app will guide you through the Trueplay tuning process. This calibrates the speaker's sound to your room's acoustics for optimal performance. Note that Trueplay is only compatible with iOS devices.
Compatibility
- Wireless: Compatible with standard 802.11b/g/n, 2.4 GHz broadcast-capable WiFi routers.
- Control App: Requires the Sonos Controller app, available for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) and Android devices.
- Streaming Services: Supports a vast array of popular music streaming services, internet radio, and personal digital music libraries.
- Apple AirPlay 2: Fully compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 for direct streaming from Apple devices (iOS 11.4 or later) and Siri voice commands for Apple Music.
- Wired Input: The 3.5 mm auxiliary input is compatible with standard audio devices such as turntables (with built-in or external pre-amp), CD players, and other audio sources with a line-level output.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the exterior of your Sonos Five with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, cleaning sprays, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish.
- Placement: Ensure the speaker is placed on a stable surface to prevent accidental falls. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate space around the speaker for proper ventilation. Do not block any vents.
- Environmental: The Sonos Five is designed for indoor use. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures, humidity, or moisture.
