Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting Started (Setup)
Upon first wearing your Clea Jacket, take a moment to customize its fit for optimal comfort and protection:
- Hood Adjustment: Locate the drawcords on either side or the back of the grown-on hood. Pull gently to tighten for a snug fit around your head, especially in windy or snowy conditions. Release the toggles to loosen.
- Hem Adjustment: Find the drawcord hem usually located inside the jacket at the waist or along the bottom edge. Pull the drawcord to cinch the hem, trapping warmth and preventing cold air from entering from below.
- Cuff Adjustment: Utilize the button cuff adjusters on each sleeve. Fasten the buttons to tighten the cuffs, creating a seal against snow and cold. Loosen them to accommodate thicker gloves or for more relaxed wear.
Compatibility
This jacket is designed to be worn over base layers and mid-layers for maximum effectiveness in cold conditions. Consider:
- Base Layers: Moisture-wicking thermal tops and bottoms are ideal underneath to manage sweat.
- Mid-Layers: A fleece or lightweight insulated jacket can be added for extra warmth in very cold environments. The Clea Jacket's generous fit should accommodate these layers.
- Accessories: Pair with waterproof ski pants, insulated gloves or mittens, and a warm hat (though the adjustable hood offers significant head protection).
Product Care
Proper care will prolong the life and performance of your waterproof padded jacket. While specific instructions may vary by label, here are general guidelines:
- Pre-Wash: Empty all pockets and close all zippers and fasteners.
- Washing: Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Use a technical cleaner specifically designed for waterproof outerwear or a mild liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergents, bleach, and fabric softeners, as these can damage the waterproof coating and insulation.
- Rinsing: Ensure the jacket is thoroughly rinsed to remove all detergent residue.
- Drying: Tumble dry on a low heat setting with a few clean tennis balls (to help fluff the padding). Alternatively, hang dry in a well-ventilated area, periodically fluffing the jacket to redistribute insulation. Avoid direct heat sources.
- Re-Waterproofing (Optional): Over time, the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish may wear off. If water no longer beads on the surface, consider applying a DWR re-proof spray or wash-in product according to the manufacturer's instructions. Material is often polyester.
