Setup, Compatibility & Care
To get the most out of your Birkenstock Boston clogs, proper initial setup and ongoing care are essential.
Initial Setup
- Unbuckle and Loosen: Fully unbuckle the galvanised strap.
- Slide Foot In: Place your foot into the clog.
- Adjust Buckle: Re-buckle the strap, adjusting it so there's about `0.5 cm` or `1/4 inch` of space between the strap and the top of your foot. It should feel secure, but not tight. You should be able to slide a finger easily under the strap.
- Check Fit: Ensure your heel sits comfortably in the heel cup and your toes are within the raised toe bar, with a small gap (`5 mm` to `10 mm`) in front of your longest toe. This ensures the footbed can properly support your foot.
Compatibility
- Unisex Design: The Birkenstock Boston is a unisex model, suitable for both men and women.
- Styling: Its versatile design complements a wide range of casual attire, from jeans and shorts to dresses and skirts.
- Activities: Ideal for daily wear, light walking, and casual outings. Not recommended for intense athletic activities or environments requiring extensive foot protection.
Care Instructions for Suede
Maintaining the quality and appearance of your suede Boston clogs requires specific care:
- Regular Brushing: Use a dedicated suede brush to gently brush off dirt and dust. Brush in one direction to maintain the nap of the suede. This should be done regularly, especially after wear.
- Protection: Apply a suede and nubuck protector spray before first wear and periodically thereafter. This helps repel water and stains.
- Spot Cleaning: For minor spots, use a suede eraser or a slightly damp (not wet) clean cloth to gently rub the affected area. For tougher stains, use a specialized suede cleaner following the product's instructions.
- Drying: If your clogs get wet, allow them to air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Stuff them with paper towels to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Avoid Water: Suede is sensitive to water. Avoid wearing your clogs in heavy rain, snow, or muddy conditions. If they do get wet, clean and dry them as instructed above.
- Footbed Care: The cork footbed can be wiped with a damp cloth if needed. Avoid saturating it with water. Allow to air dry completely.
