Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Your Nike Pegasus Trail 5 Gore-tex shoes arrive ready for the trail. Before your first run, it's recommended to wear them for a short walk to ensure a comfortable fit. Pay attention to how you lace them; a secure lacing pattern, such as using a runner's knot, can prevent heel slip and provide better midfoot lockdown on uneven terrain.
Compatibility
These shoes are specifically designed for trail running and are highly compatible with varied off-road environments. They excel on:
- Dirt paths and forest trails
- Gravel roads
- Rocky and uneven terrain (moderate to technical)
- Wet and muddy conditions (thanks to Gore-tex)
While they can handle short stretches of road, their primary design and aggressive outsole make them less ideal for prolonged road running.
Care
Proper care extends the life and performance of your shoes:
- Cleaning: After a muddy run, remove excess dirt by gently rinsing them under cold water. Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub away stubborn grime. Avoid harsh detergents.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not place them directly on heaters or in direct sunlight, as excessive heat can damage the Gore-tex membrane and adhesives. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Inspection: Regularly check the outsole for embedded debris (small rocks, thorns) that could affect traction or damage the shoe.
