Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & First Use
- Lacing: Ensure boots are laced securely but not overly tight. Start from the bottom and work your way up, ensuring even tension. A snug fit prevents your foot from sliding, which can cause blisters.
- Break-in Period: While designed for comfort, it's advisable to wear your new boots on shorter walks before attempting longer hikes to allow them to conform to your feet.
Compatibility
These boots are compatible with standard hiking socks. Choose socks made from moisture-wicking materials like merino wool or synthetic blends to complement the boot's waterproof properties and manage internal moisture.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning: After use, especially in muddy or dirty conditions, clean your boots using a `soft damp cloth`. Gently wipe away dirt and debris. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes that could damage the waterproof membrane or synthetic upper.
- Drying: Allow boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct heat sources like radiators or open fires, as this can damage the materials and adhesives. Remove insoles and loosen laces to promote air circulation.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure they are clean and dry before storing to prevent mildew or material degradation.
- Waterproofing Reinforcement: Over time, the outer DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating may wear off. While the internal membrane provides waterproofing, you can periodically re-treat the synthetic upper with a suitable waterproof spray designed for synthetic footwear to help water bead off the surface.
