While the Karrimor Mount Walking Boots are waterproof, they are not specifically insulated for extreme cold conditions. For very cold winter hiking, you might consider boots with additional thermal insulation.

Wear the type of socks you'd typically use for walking. There should be about a thumb's width space between your longest toe and the end of the boot. Your heel should feel secure with minimal lift when walking, and the sides should not feel too tight or pinch.

These boots are designed for general walking and hiking on varied terrains. For highly technical mountaineering or extremely rough, rocky ascents, a more specialized, stiffer boot with greater ankle support might be more appropriate than a mid-cut design.

Weathertite is Karrimor's proprietary waterproof and breathable membrane. It acts as a barrier to water from the outside while allowing moisture vapour from perspiration to escape, keeping your feet dry and comfortable.

For basic cleaning, brush off dry dirt with a soft brush. For deeper cleaning, use a specialized suede cleaner and follow the product's instructions. Avoid soaking the boots or using harsh soaps.

The boots come with a factory DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment and the internal Weathertite membrane for waterproofing. Over time, the DWR will wear off. Reapplying a suitable waterproofing spray for suede and breathable materials will help maintain the outer water repellency and prevent the upper from wetting out.

Check if water is entering over the top of the boot, or through damaged areas. Ensure your trousers are covering the top of the boots. Reapply a waterproofing treatment for suede/textile boots if the external water repellency has worn off. Inspect the boots for any cuts or punctures that might compromise the Weathertite membrane.

Ensure you have the correct size and width. Use appropriate hiking socks (avoid cotton, opt for wool or synthetic). Make sure the boots are properly broken in before long excursions. Experiment with different lacing techniques to find a secure yet comfortable fit that prevents your foot from sliding.

Clean the sole thoroughly to remove any caked-on mud, small stones, or debris that might be reducing traction. Inspect the sole pattern for excessive wear; if the lugs are significantly worn, the grip will be reduced, indicating it might be time for new boots.

This is often normal for new walking boots. Dedicate several short walks to breaking them in on easy terrain. This allows the materials to soften and mould to your feet. Ensure your lacing isn't too tight, which can restrict movement.
