Catmint is a live, vigorous outdoor-growing herbaceous perennial, botanically known as Nepeta. This hardy flowering herb plant in a 13cm pot features aromatic, felty grey leaves and produces spikes of lavender-blue bell-shaped flowers. Catmint is renowned for attracting cats, as its name suggests, and its flowers also attract pollinating insects like bees, butterflies, and moths, earning it the RHS Plants for Pollinators approval. When used fresh or dried, Catmint is rich in Vitamin C, and its leaves can be brewed into a refreshing, therapeutic tea traditionally used for nervousness, insomnia, hyperactivity, colds, and fevers. The flowers can also be dried for potpourri. Nepeta is easy to grow in well-draining soil and is drought-tolerant, thriving best in full sunlight but tolerating partial shade. It can grow up to 45cm in height and is ideal for beds and borders in various garden styles, including coastal, cottage, and wildlife gardens, as well as for edging pathways.
