Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
Your Nike Pegasus Trail 5 Gore-Tex shoes are ready to wear right out of the box.
- Lacing: Before your first run, ensure you lace them securely, but not too tightly. Experiment with different lacing patterns to find the most comfortable fit for your foot shape, especially important for preventing pressure points on trails.
- Break-in Period: While often comfortable immediately, a short break-in period of 1-2 runs on less challenging terrain can help your feet adapt to the shoes and vice versa.
Compatibility
These shoes are designed for:
- Trail Running: Ideal for various trail types, from technical rocky paths to soft forest floors.
- Hiking: Suitable for light to moderate hiking due to their comfort, protection, and traction.
- Wet Weather: Their primary strength lies in their ability to perform in rainy, muddy, or damp conditions.
Care Instructions
Proper care extends the life and maintains the performance of your Gore-Tex shoes:
- Cleaning:
- After each use, especially in muddy conditions, knock off loose dirt.
- Use a soft brush (like an old toothbrush) and lukewarm water with a mild detergent (avoid strong chemicals) to gently clean the upper and outsole.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Do NOT machine wash or tumble dry, as this can damage the Gore-Tex membrane and other materials.
- Drying:
- Stuff the shoes with newspaper or paper towels to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Allow them to air dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, direct sunlight), which can damage materials.
- Storage:
- Store in a cool, dry place. Ensure they are completely dry before storing for extended periods to prevent odor and mildew.
- Waterproofing Maintenance:
- The Gore-Tex membrane provides durable waterproofing. You typically do not need to apply additional waterproofing treatments to the shoes themselves. However, you can use a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray on the outer fabric if water starts to soak into the surface fabric rather than beading up, but this doesn't affect the Gore-Tex membrane's integrity.
