Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting the most out of your Karrimor Mount Walking Boots involves proper initial setup, understanding their compatibility, and consistent care.
Initial Setup (Breaking In)
- Wear Around the House: Before embarking on a long hike, wear your boots around the house for a few hours each day over several days. This allows the materials to soften and conform to your foot shape.
- Short Walks: Progress to short walks on local trails or in your neighborhood. Gradually increase the distance and duration.
- Proper Socks: Always wear the type of socks you intend to use for hiking during the break-in period to ensure an accurate fit and comfort.
Compatibility
- Socks: Best paired with moisture-wicking synthetic or merino wool hiking socks. Avoid thick cotton socks which retain moisture.
- Terrain: Designed for light to moderate hiking trails, general outdoor use, and varied terrains, including wet and uneven surfaces.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning After Use: After each use, especially in muddy conditions, brush off loose dirt with a soft brush. For stubborn mud, wipe with a damp cloth.
- Deep Cleaning: For a more thorough clean, use a specialized footwear cleaning gel or mild soap with warm water. Apply with a soft brush, gently scrubbing the upper and outsole.
- Rinsing: Rinse the boots thoroughly with clean water, ensuring all soap residue is removed.
- Drying: Allow the boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use direct heat sources like radiators or open fires, as this can damage the leather and waterproof membrane.
- Waterproofing Treatment: Over time, the durable water repellent (DWR) treatment on the outer material may diminish. Reapply a suitable waterproofing spray or cream (specific for leather/textile hiking boots) periodically to maintain water resistance.
- Storage: Store your boots in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. You can insert crumpled newspaper or shoe trees to help them retain their shape.
