The Torrentshell 3L is a waterproof shell, designed for rain protection and breathability, not insulation. For cold weather, you will need to wear appropriate insulating layers underneath, such as a fleece or a down jacket.

'3L' stands for 3-layer construction. This means the waterproof/breathable membrane is sandwiched between an outer face fabric and an inner liner, providing enhanced durability and comfort compared to 2-layer or 2.5-layer designs.

Regular washing according to care instructions (using a technical wash) and occasional reapplication of a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment when water no longer beads on the surface will maintain its waterproof performance.

While it offers excellent breathability for a waterproof shell, for very high-output activities like trail running in warm, humid conditions, you might find it too warm. The pit zips do help with ventilation, but for peak performance, a highly specialized, ultralight running shell might be more appropriate.

This indicates the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish needs reactivation or reapplication. Tumble dry the jacket on low heat to reactivate the existing DWR. If this doesn't work, wash the jacket as per care instructions and then apply a new DWR treatment designed for waterproof breathable fabrics.

Ensure you are properly venting the jacket during activity using the pit zips. Also, check your layering; wearing too many non-breathable layers underneath can trap moisture. Make sure your base and mid-layers are moisture-wicking.

Clean the zipper teeth with a small brush and warm, soapy water to remove dirt or debris. Once dry, apply a specialized zipper lubricant or a small amount of graphite from a pencil to the teeth to improve glide. Avoid forcing the zipper.

Check the cord locks to ensure they are clean and not damaged. If they appear worn, contact Patagonia's customer service for potential repair or replacement parts. Ensure the cords are not excessively stretched or tangled within the jacket.
