Setup and Application
- Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from loose paint, dust, dirt, grease, and wax. Scrape off any loose or peeling paint. Fill cracks and holes with appropriate filler and sand smooth. Mask off any areas you do not wish to prime.
- Stirring: Stir the primer thoroughly before and during use to ensure all solids are evenly distributed.
- Application: Apply a thin, even coat using a good quality natural bristle brush, roller, or airless spray. Avoid over-application as thicker coats can lead to poor adhesion or longer drying times.
- Drying Time: Info needed: Drying times can vary based on temperature and humidity. Allow adequate time before applying a second coat if needed, or your topcoat.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying due to the primer's strong odor.
Compatibility
Zinsser BIN Primer is compatible with virtually any topcoat, including oil-based paints, latex (water-based) paints, and alkyd paints. Always perform a small test patch in an inconspicuous area if you are unsure about compatibility with a specific topcoat.
Care and Storage
- Cleanup: Info needed: Clean tools immediately after use with denatured alcohol or an ammonia-based cleaner. Do not use water.
- Storage: Store the container tightly sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
