Our aluminium fruit and vegetable cage kits are available with or without netting, providing you w...Our aluminium fruit and vegetable cage kits are available with or without netting, providing you with options to protect your crops. Choose from bird netting to keep fruit safe from birds, butterfly netting to prevent the cabbage white butterfly, or Veggiemesh to stop smaller insects that could damage your plants. Select "no netting" if you already have your own netting. The cages feature a strong, lightweight, rust-resistant aluminium frame that is built to last for seasons. They are quick and simple to set up, with everything you need included in the kit. The cages keep pests out while allowing sunlight and rain in. The cages stand 1.2m high (3ft 11 inches) once erected and come with instructions, diagrams, and a list of contents. The 16mm uprights (legs) are pushed into the soil 300mm, and the tubes are 1500mm (4ft 11 inches) long allowing for the 300mm. The connectors, either build a balls or joiners, are used to connect the 13mm crossbars, which then connect to the legs. The netting is laid over the cage and pegged down, not fitted, making it easy to remove for working the beds. Your crops will grow larger and be healthier with the wind resistance provided by the netting, which also stops insect pests and birds. Please note: if snow or high winds are forecast, remove the netting. See our Cages FAQ for some common questions and answers.

FAQs
What is the main purpose of these cages?
The main purpose is to protect fruit and vegetables from pests such as birds, butterflies, and smaller insects, helping to ensure a healthier and larger crop yield.
Can I use my own netting with this frame?
Yes, you can select the 'no netting' option if you already have your own netting you wish to use. The netting provided is designed to be laid over the cage and pegged down.
How deep do the legs need to be inserted into the ground?
The 16mm uprights (legs) are designed to be pushed into the soil to a depth of 300mm (approximately 1 foot) for stability.
What is Veggiemesh?
Veggiemesh is a type of netting offered with the cages designed to stop smaller insects, such as those that damage brassica leaves, from reaching your plants.
Do I need to remove the cage in winter?
The cage frame is designed for outdoor use and is rust-resistant. However, it is recommended to remove the netting if heavy snow or high winds are forecast to prevent damage to the structure. The frame itself can remain in place if desired.
How tall is the cage once erected?
The cages stand 1.2m (approximately 3 feet 11 inches) high once fully erected.
Will the netting stop all pests?
The netting is effective against a wide range of common garden pests. However, effectiveness can depend on the specific pest and ensuring the netting is properly secured without gaps.
Troubleshooting
Cage feels unstable after setup
Ensure all uprights (legs) are pushed at least 300mm into the soil. Check that all connectors are fully engaged. Consider adding additional pegs to secure the netting more firmly to the ground, which also helps stabilize the frame.
Netting is difficult to attach or sags
Ensure the frame is assembled correctly and is square. Adjust the placement of pegs to create better tension on the netting. For sagging, ensure the crossbars are positioned correctly and try to distribute the netting evenly over the frame.
Pests are still getting into the cage
Check for any gaps where the netting meets the ground or around the frame. Ensure all edges are securely pegged down. If using bird netting, ensure the mesh size is small enough for the specific birds you are trying to deter.
Aluminium frame shows signs of corrosion
While the frame is rust-resistant, prolonged exposure to certain conditions might cause minor surface marks. Clean with a damp cloth. This is generally cosmetic and does not affect structural integrity.
