FAQs
What are the dimensions of the cages?
The cages stand 1.2m (3ft 11 inches) high once erected. The uprights are 1500mm long and are designed to be pushed 300mm into the soil, leaving 1200mm above ground.
Can I choose different types of netting?
Yes, you can choose from bird netting (black or green), butterfly netting, or Veggiemesh. A 'no netting' option is also available if you have your own.
How is the netting attached?
The netting is designed to be laid over the cage and pegged down. It is not fitted tightly to allow for easier removal, especially on larger cages.
What maintenance is required for the frame?
The aluminium frame is rust-resistant and requires minimal maintenance. Periodic cleaning with a damp cloth is usually sufficient.
What should I do in case of bad weather?
If snow or high winds are forecast, it is recommended to remove the netting to prevent damage to the cage structure.
Are there options for taller or walk-in cages?
Yes, Gardening Naturally offers links to information on higher garden cages or walk-in cage options, as well as the possibility to design a custom cage.
What is the benefit of the netting providing some wind resistance?
The slight wind resistance provided by the netting can help to strengthen your crops over time, making them more resilient.
Troubleshooting
Cage structure feels unstable.
Ensure the uprights are pushed sufficiently deep into the soil (300mm recommended). Check that all connectors are securely fitted between the uprights and crossbars.
Netting is difficult to secure.
Ensure the netting is adequately sized for the cage. Use pegs or weights evenly spaced around the base to keep the netting taut and prevent pests from entering underneath.
Netting tears easily.
Handle the netting carefully during setup and removal. Avoid snagging it on sharp objects. Consider reinforcing corners if frequent use causes wear.
Uprights do not stay in place.
If the soil is very loose, consider using additional ground anchors or a different method to secure the uprights, such as placing heavy objects around their base.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Strong and durable rust-resistant aluminium construction.
Multiple netting options for targeted pest control.
Easy and quick assembly process.
Allows sunlight and rain penetration while blocking pests.
Available in various sizes to suit different needs.
Netting is easily removable for plant access.
Cons
Netting is not fitted and must be secured manually (e.g., with pegs).
Netting should be removed during adverse weather conditions like high winds or snow.
The 16mm uprights require pushing into the soil for stability, which may not be suitable for all ground types.
Larger cages may require more than one person to manage netting removal/replacement.

Setup:
Unpack all components and verify against the included contents list.

Secure the netting to the ground using the provided pegs or weights.
Compatibility:
The cages are designed for use on most soil types where the uprights can be securely inserted.
Compatibility with different netting types (bird, butterfly, Veggiemesh) is standard.
Refer to the product listing for available cage sizes.
Care:
Clean the aluminium frame periodically with a damp cloth if necessary.
Store netting indoors during the off-season to prolong its lifespan.
