Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and old sealant. For best adhesion, surfaces may require cleaning with a suitable solvent.
- Application: Apply using a standard sealant gun. Cut the nozzle to the desired bead size. Apply a continuous bead of sealant to one surface.
- Tooling: Tool the bead immediately after application using a damp tool or spatula to ensure good contact with both surfaces.
- Curing: Allow the sealant to cure fully. Avoid disturbing the sealed area during the curing process.
Compatibility:
Dowsil 784 Glazing Sealant is compatible with a wide range of building materials including glass, aluminum, painted surfaces, and certain plastics. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area if unsure about compatibility with specific materials.
Care:
- Cleaning: Clean up uncured sealant immediately with a damp cloth or solvent. Cured sealant can be removed mechanically.
- Maintenance: Once cured, the sealant requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the sealed joints for any signs of wear or damage. Damaged areas can be re-sealed after proper preparation.
