The Flamboyant, also known as the Flame of the Forest or Royal Poinciana, has become a globally widespread plant found in the tropics and the Caribbean, as well as in the Canary Islands and Southern Europe. With its massive crown, it provides great shade and is often found on roadsides or in parks. After six to eight years, the Flamboyant produces scarlet and orange flowers that shine like a sea of flames, creating a spectacular sight. It can be easily cultivated as a tub plant. The seeds can be propagated indoors throughout the year. To increase germination, place the seeds in warm water overnight. Sow the seeds about 0.5 cm deep in moist potting soil and cover the seed container with clear film to prevent the soil from drying out. Place the seed vessel in a bright and warm place with a temperature between 20°C and 25° Celsius and keep the soil moist but not wet. Germination takes about two to four weeks. The young seedling should be kept in a bright place, but protected from strong sunlight for the first six to twelve weeks. Later, your Flamboyant can be moved to a sunny but wind-protected place. To grow a beautiful and dense Flamboyant, you should prune the younger plant. From the beginning of May to the end of October, your tree needs fertilizer for tub plants every two to three weeks. Instead of choosing a larger pot or tub at the beginning, it is better to move up every two years to ensure healthy growth. Flowers form after six to eight years. The Flamboyant is not frost-resistant and should not be stored in places with temperatures below 3° Celsius. In winter, it sheds its leaves and sprouts again in late spring. To shorten the leafless period, it is best to overwinter your plant in a bright location with a temperature of up to 20° Celsius.
