Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & Adjustments
Getting the most out of your Stormcloud Prime jacket involves a few simple adjustments:
- Hood: Use the drawcords to tighten or loosen the hood for optimal coverage and peripheral vision. Ensure it's snug enough to stay put in windy conditions but not overly restrictive.
- Cuffs: Adjust the hook-and-loop tabs on the cuffs to create a seal around your wrists, preventing rain and cold air from entering. This also helps keep sleeves in place.
- Hem: Utilize the drawcord at the hem to cinch the jacket closer to your body. This traps warmth inside and prevents updrafts of cold air.
Compatibility
This jacket is designed as an outer layer and works best with appropriate layering underneath:
- Base Layers: Wear moisture-wicking base layers to draw sweat away from your skin.
- Mid-Layers: For colder conditions, add a fleece or lightweight insulated mid-layer for additional warmth.
- Activities: Ideal for hiking, walking, camping, general outdoor use, and urban commuting in wet or chilly weather. Its lightweight nature makes it easy to carry.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will prolong your jacket's lifespan and maintain its performance:
- Washing: Always check the care label inside the jacket. Generally, machine wash on a gentle cycle with a technical wash specific for waterproof/breathable fabrics (e.g., Nikwax Tech Wash). Avoid biological detergents, fabric softeners, and bleach, as these can damage the DWR coating and membrane.
- Drying: Tumble dry on a low heat setting or air dry away from direct heat. Tumble drying on low heat can often reactivate the DWR finish.
- DWR Reapplication: Over time, the DWR coating will wear off. If water no longer beads up on the fabric surface, it's time to reapply a DWR treatment (spray-on or wash-in) specifically designed for waterproof outerwear.
- Storage: Store the jacket clean and dry, ideally hanging in a well-ventilated area.
