Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Setup
Before coloring, gather all necessary items and prepare your space for a smooth application.
- Perform a Patch Test: 48 hours before full application, apply a small amount of the mixed colorant to a discreet area of skin (e.g., behind the ear or inner elbow). Monitor for any reaction like itching, redness, or swelling. This is a critical step to prevent severe allergic reactions.
- Perform a Strand Test: Apply the mixed colorant to a small, hidden section of hair. This allows you to check the final color result and determine the ideal processing time specifically for your hair type and starting color.
- Prepare Your Area: Lay down old towels, newspaper, or plastic sheets to protect surfaces (floors, countertops) from accidental drips or spills. Have a timer, an old towel for your shoulders, and petroleum jelly (or a similar barrier cream) readily available.
- Protect Skin: Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or a heavy moisturizer along your hairline, ears, and neck to prevent skin staining. Wear the provided gloves throughout the entire application and rinsing process.
- Mix the Formula: Follow the instructions precisely to mix the developer and colorant components. Shake the bottle as directed (usually by inverting a specific number of times, not vigorous shaking) to activate the foam consistently.
Compatibility
- Age Group: This product is strictly intended for adult use.
- Hair Type: Suitable for most hair types. However, results may vary based on your hair's porosity, current color, and overall condition. For hair that has been extensively bleached, chemically straightened, or permed, consult the instruction leaflet or a professional as the color uptake can be more intense or unpredictable.
- Gender: While designed for female hair, it can be used by anyone desiring the 5R Medium Red Brown shade, provided they meet the age and compatibility requirements.
Care
After coloring, proper care is essential to maintain the vibrancy, shine, and health of your newly colored hair.
- Rinse Thoroughly: After the processing time, rinse your hair with lukewarm water until the water runs completely clear, indicating all excess dye has been removed.
- Condition: Apply the conditioning treatment provided in the kit. This product is formulated to help lock in color, add shine, and nourish your hair. Leave it on for the recommended time, then rinse.
- Wait to Wash: Avoid washing your hair with shampoo for 24-48 hours after coloring. This allows the hair cuticle to fully close and the color molecules to set deeply.
- Use Color-Safe Products: Switch to shampoos and conditioners specifically formulated for color-treated hair. These products are gentler and help to prolong color vibrancy and prevent premature fading.
- Limit Heat Styling: Excessive heat from styling tools can cause hair color to fade more quickly. If you must use heat, always apply a high-quality heat protectant beforehand.
- Sun Protection: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and UV rays can dull hair color. Consider using hair products with UV filters or wearing a hat when spending extended periods outdoors.
