Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup Instructions
- Mark Location: Identify the precise spot where you want to install the screw eye.
- Drill Pilot Hole: For optimal installation and to prevent timber splitting, it is strongly advised to drill a pilot hole. The pilot hole should be slightly smaller in diameter than the screw's core (the unthreaded part) and slightly less deep than the threaded section of the screw eye. This ensures the threads can properly bite into the material.
- Insert Screw Eye: Insert the pointed end of the screw eye into the pilot hole. Turn the screw eye clockwise, either by hand or using a tool inserted into the eye for leverage, until it is firmly seated and secure. Do not overtighten, as this can strip the wood or damage the screw eye.
- For Wall Plugs: If installing into masonry or plasterboard, drill a hole suitable for your chosen wall plug, insert the plug, then screw the ForgeFix Screw Eye into the wall plug until secure.
Compatibility
- Materials: Compatible with timber, softwoods, hardwoods, and similar wooden materials. Can be used with various types of wall plugs for application in masonry, concrete, and plasterboard.
- Tools: Requires a drill for pilot holes (recommended) and potentially a tool for leverage if hand-tightening is difficult.
Care & Maintenance
These screw eyes require minimal care due to their zinc-plated finish. The zinc acts as a protective layer, resisting corrosion. If you notice a fine white powder on the surface, this is typically zinc oxide, a normal part of the zinc's sacrificial protection process. Simply ensure the screw eye remains firmly fixed in its application. Avoid excessive force or bending, which could compromise the integrity of the material or its coating.
