Clean the nest box at the end of the breeding season, typically in late summer or early autumn.
The type of fixings will depend on the surface you're mounting the box to (wood, brick, etc.). Use screws or nails appropriate for the material.
It's best not to paint the interior of the nest box, as this could be harmful to the birds. You can paint the exterior, but avoid bright colors that might deter them.
Mount the nest box at a height of 1.5 to 3 meters (5 to 10 feet) above the ground.
The nest box is designed primarily for sparrows, however it may attract other species. Monitor the activity and the success of the species nesting in your nest box.
Choose a location sheltered from the elements, away from direct sunlight, and with easy access to food and water sources.
The nest box measures 47cm wide, 19cm deep, and 22cm high.
Relocate the nest box to a more suitable location, sheltered from wind and sun. Ensure it's mounted securely and away from potential predators. Consider adding nesting material.
Unscrew the top brace under the lid, then remove the nest fronts for easier access and cleaning. Use a brush or scraper to remove any stubborn debris.
