Product Information

Full details

The Spomb X Reel is a purpose-built tool designed for serious carp anglers who require precision and durability during heavy-duty baiting sessions. It is engineered specifically for casting Spombs and other baiting devices, offering a high-speed retrieve and a robust drag system to handle repetitive, high-impact use; however, its specialized design and weight of 603g make it less suitable for standard fishing applications where a lighter, more versatile reel might be preferred.

FAQs

Can I use the Spomb X Reel for normal carp fishing?

While technically possible, the reel is optimized specifically for spodding with a 5.2:1 ratio and a heavy-duty build that makes it less ideal for standard play.

How much line does one handle turn retrieve?

The Spomb X retrieves 124cm of line for every full turn of the handle.

Does the reel come with a spare spool?

No, the reel comes with a single main spool optimized for high-capacity baiting duties.

How do I maintain the sealed body?

Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth and ensure it remains free of dried bait particles; do not use high-pressure water hoses.

Is the drag system suitable for fighting large fish?

It features a 25kg Carbon Matrix drag, which is more than capable of handling large fish, though it is primarily designed to lock down for accurate baiting.

Troubleshooting

Bail arm closing prematurely during cast

Ensure the rotor brake is fully engaged and check for any debris around the bail arm hinge.

Line slipping during the cast

Tighten the Quick Clutch drag system; it is designed to hold firmly for heavy spodding loads.

Reel feels sluggish during retrieve

Check the spool for line tangles or 'bedding-in' caused by loose winding under load.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Exceptionally fast retrieve speed for efficient baiting
High-strength internal gearing handles heavy loads well
Quick clutch system offers reliable stopping power
Rotor brake adds a critical layer of safety during casting
Dual line clips allow for easy range finding

Cons

Heavier weight at 603g may cause fatigue during long sessions
Specialized build is not suitable for general fishing
Requires proper maintenance to keep the sealed body effective

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To optimize your setup, ensure the line is wound tightly onto the spool to prevent bedding-in, which is common with heavy-duty casting. When setting up, utilize the dual soft-sprung line clips to mark your distances for consistent accuracy.

Care instructions include:

Rinse the reel lightly with fresh water after sessions in dusty or muddy conditions.
Regularly inspect the bail arm and rotor brake mechanism for bait debris.
Keep the reel stored in a dry, temperate environment.
Avoid submerging the reel entirely, despite its sealed design, to maintain the longevity of the internal grease.
