Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Simply put on the jacket and adjust the hood and elastic cuffs for a comfortable and secure fit. The full-length VISLON® centre front zip allows for easy on and off.
Compatibility
This jacket is designed primarily as a warm outer layer for cold conditions. Its streamlined fit also allows it to be comfortably layered under a waterproof shell for activities in heavy rain or snow, or over a base layer for milder cold days.
Care
To ensure the longevity and performance of your Aconcagua Hooded Down Jacket, follow these care instructions:
- Preparation: Close all zippers and turn the jacket inside out before washing.
- Washing: Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. It is highly recommended to use a down-specific cleaner (e.g., Nikwax Down Wash Direct) to preserve the down's loft and water repellency. Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, and harsh detergents.
- Rinsing: Ensure the jacket is thoroughly rinsed to remove all soap residue. You may need to run an extra rinse cycle.
- Drying: This is the most crucial step for down insulation. Tumble dry on a very low heat setting with 2-3 clean tennis balls or down drying balls. The balls help to break up down clumps and restore the jacket's loft. This process can take several hours, and you may need to periodically remove the jacket and manually fluff the down.
- Complete Drying: Ensure the jacket is completely dry before storing it. Any residual moisture can lead to mildew or degradation of the down.
- DWR Reapplication: Over time, the Durable Water-Repellent (DWR) finish may wear off. If you notice water no longer beads up on the fabric surface, consider reapplying a spray-on or wash-in DWR treatment.
