Yes, it provides excellent wind and rain protection, though you should layer appropriate insulation underneath for colder temperatures.
It is recommended to use a specialized technical fabric cleaner to avoid damaging the waterproof membrane and DWR coating.
It refers to the fabric's performance ratings: 35,000mm hydrostatic head for waterproofness and a 35,000g/m²/24h rating for breathability.
The hood features a wired visor that can be adjusted to keep rain off your face while maintaining a clear field of vision.
While it is durable and robust, it is designed to be lightweight enough to stow in a hiking pack when not in use.
The DWR finish has likely worn off. Wash the jacket with a technical gear cleaner and tumble dry on low to reactivate, or reapply a DWR spray treatment.
Ensure you are using the correct layering system. Wearing cotton under a technical shell will trap moisture; switch to moisture-wicking synthetic or wool base layers.
To ensure the longevity of your jacket, always follow the care label instructions. Wash in cool to warm water using a technical cleaner designed for waterproof garments rather than standard laundry detergents, which can strip the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating. Periodically reactivate the DWR finish by tumble drying on a low heat setting if the fabric stops 'beading' water. Ensure all zips are closed before washing. The jacket is designed as an outer shell, so it is best worn over mid-layers like fleece or technical base layers depending on the temperature.
