Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup & Fit Adjustment
Upon receiving your Belstaff Fieldmaster Jacket, adjust the internal drawstring at the waist to achieve your preferred fit. This allows you to customize the silhouette, whether you prefer a snugger fit or a more relaxed feel. The adjustable throat latch on the high collar can be secured to offer additional protection from wind and cold around your neck.
Compatibility
This jacket is designed to be fully compatible with the Belstaff Icon Gilet (sold separately). The gilet easily snaps into the jacket, providing an extra layer of insulation for colder conditions. This modular design allows you to adapt your jacket's warmth level to suit different weather or seasonal requirements.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care is crucial for the longevity and performance of your waxed cotton jacket.
- Cleaning: Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, or dry clean the jacket. These methods can damage the wax coating. Instead, use a damp cloth and cold water to wipe away any dirt or mud. For tougher spots, a soft brush can be used gently.
- Rewaxing: The most important maintenance step is periodic rewaxing. Over time, the wax coating will naturally wear off, especially in high-flex areas like elbows and shoulders, reducing its water and wind-repellency. We recommend rewaxing your jacket at least once a year, or more frequently if it sees heavy use or if you notice water no longer beads off the fabric. Use a quality reproofing wax specifically designed for waxed cotton garments. Follow the instructions provided with your chosen wax product, typically involving warming the wax, applying it evenly with a cloth, and gently warming the fabric (e.g., with a hairdryer) to help the wax absorb.
- Storage: Store your jacket in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat, which can cause the wax to melt or degrade. Avoid storing it in plastic bags, as this can trap moisture and lead to mildew. Hang it on a sturdy hanger to maintain its shape.
- Spot Treatment: For minor scuffs or dry spots, you can apply a small amount of wax directly to the affected area and rub it in firmly.
Following these care instructions will ensure your Belstaff Fieldmaster Jacket remains a durable, protective, and stylish garment for years to come.
