Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Your Belstaff Racemaster Jacket comes ready to wear. Simply put it on and adjust any fastenings for comfort. The waxed cotton may feel a little stiff initially, but it will soften and mold to your body with wear.
Compatibility
This jacket's classic design makes it incredibly versatile. It pairs well with:
- Casual Wear: Jeans, chinos, t-shirts, sweaters, and casual shirts.
- Layering: Can be worn over light to medium-weight sweaters or hoodies for added warmth in colder weather.
- Footwear: Boots (leather or waterproof), casual sneakers, or sturdy walking shoes.
Care Instructions
Proper care is essential to maintain the weatherproof qualities and extend the life of your waxed cotton jacket.
Do NOT machine wash, dry clean, or tumble dry. These methods will strip the wax coating and damage the fabric.
- Cleaning: For general dirt or mud, allow it to dry, then brush off with a soft brush. For stubborn marks, sponge clean with cold water only. Avoid using hot water or harsh detergents, as they will remove the wax.
- Re-waxing: To maintain its weatherproof properties, your jacket will need to be re-waxed periodically, typically once a year or every few years depending on wear. Use a specialized wax cotton dressing from Belstaff or a reputable brand. Apply the wax evenly with a cloth, focusing on seams and areas of high wear, then gently heat with a hairdryer to melt and distribute the wax.
- Drying: Always air dry your jacket thoroughly in a well-ventilated area, away from direct heat sources like radiators or fires.
- Storage: Store your jacket in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing it in a plastic garment bag, as this can trap moisture and lead to mildew. A breathable cotton bag is ideal.
- Addressing Odors: If the jacket develops a natural 'waxy' smell, airing it out in a well-ventilated space (e.g., outdoors on a dry day) can help dissipate it.
