Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting the most out of your Birkenstock Gizeh sandals involves understanding proper initial wear, what they pair well with, and how to maintain them.
Initial Setup (Break-in Period)
Upon first wearing your new Gizeh sandals, you may notice the footbed feels rigid. This is part of the design. To allow the cork footbed to properly mold to your unique foot shape:
- Wear Gradually: Begin by wearing your sandals for short periods, typically 20-30 minutes, once or twice a day.
- Increase Duration: Over the next few weeks, gradually increase the time you wear them each day.
- Listen to Your Feet: If you experience any discomfort, take them off and resume wear later. This gradual process ensures the footbed customizes to your foot without causing blisters or soreness.
Compatibility
Your Birkenstock Gizeh sandals are incredibly versatile and pair well with a wide range of casual and semi-casual outfits:
- Summer Attire: Excellent with shorts, linen pants, summer dresses, skirts, and swimwear.
- Casual Everyday: Looks great with jeans, capris, and casual tops.
- Beach & Poolside: While not designed for prolonged water immersion, their style is perfect for a beach or poolside aesthetic.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care extends the life and preserves the appearance of your Gizeh sandals:
- Birko-Florecht Upper: To clean the Birko-Florecht material, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. For tougher spots, use a small amount of mild soap and water, then wipe clean and air dry.
- Cork Footbed: Keep the cork footbed dry. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat, which can cause the cork to dry out and crack. To protect and nourish the cork, apply a cork sealant periodically. This helps maintain its flexibility and prevents cracking.
- EVA Outsole: The EVA sole can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- General Care: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. If they get wet, allow them to air dry completely away from direct heat sources.
