This guide is for homeowners and decorators seeking a versatile, understated grey paint. The key benefit is Cornforth White's ability to create a calming and adaptable atmosphere in any room. A caveat to consider is its specific undertone, which can appear warmer or cooler depending on lighting. This 2.5 L Flat Eggshell paint is a mid-tone grey within Farrow & Ball's Relaxed Neutrals collection, known for its sophisticated, calming effect and suitability for a wide range of interior styles. It offers a subtle, matte finish ideal for creating serene spaces.

This is a Flat Eggshell finish, which offers a very low sheen, matte appearance with enhanced durability compared to traditional flat paints.
While it's primarily for living rooms and bedrooms, it can be used in kitchens and bathrooms if the area is well-ventilated and the surface is properly prepared with appropriate Farrow & Ball primers. However, higher sheen finishes like Modern Emulsion are generally recommended for very humid environments.
Cornforth White is a mid-tone grey that is less warm than Elephant's Breath and cooler than Ammonite. It sits between Ammonite and Purbeck Stone in the Relaxed Neutrals group.
This specific product is designed for interior walls and ceilings. For woodwork, Farrow & Ball offers other finishes like Eggshell, Satinwood, or Full Gloss in various colors, including Cornforth White.
A 2.5 L tin of Farrow & Ball paint typically covers approximately 35 square meters (377 sq ft) with one coat, depending on the surface porosity and application method.
Allow approximately 2-4 hours for the paint to dry to the touch. Re-coating should be done after a minimum of 4 hours.
For best results, use Farrow & Ball's Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat, selecting a white or light grey base depending on the depth of color desired and the existing surface.
Ensure you are applying an even coat. Stir the paint thoroughly before and during use. Check that your roller or brush is adequately loaded with paint.
Color perception is heavily influenced by lighting. Test a sample patch in the intended room, observing it at different times of the day and under various lighting conditions (natural and artificial).
Ensure the surface was properly primed and that the previous color is not too dark or vibrant. Apply a third coat if necessary, or consider a primer closer in shade to the topcoat.
The Flat Eggshell finish is very low sheen. Uneven application or wiping with a damp cloth while the paint is still wet can affect the finish. Ensure even application and allow adequate drying time between coats.
Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and old wallpaper. Fill any cracks or holes and sand smooth. For previously painted surfaces, lightly sand glossy finishes. Use a suitable primer (e.g., Farrow & Ball's Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat) to ensure optimal adhesion and color consistency.
Compatibility: This paint is intended for interior use on walls and ceilings. It is compatible with most standard painting tools like brushes, rollers, and sprayers. For best results, use with Farrow & Ball's recommended primers and undercoats.
Care: Due to its Flat Eggshell finish, it is more delicate than higher sheen paints. Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or excessive scrubbing to maintain the finish. For stubborn marks, use a mild soap solution sparingly and wipe clean with a damp cloth, drying immediately.
