Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Unboxing: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Familiarize yourself with the machine and its accessories, including the portafilter, filter baskets, milk jug, cleaning kit, and Claro Swiss water filter.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the water tank, portafilter, filter baskets, and milk jug with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
- Water Tank & Filter: Fill the water tank with cold, filtered water. Install the Claro Swiss filter into the water tank as per the filter instructions. This helps reduce scale buildup and improve coffee taste.
- Bean Hopper: Ensure the bean hopper is clean and dry before adding fresh, whole coffee beans.
- First Use Cycle: Run a few cycles without coffee to prime the pump and flush any manufacturing residue. Consult the user manual for specific instructions on this process.
Compatibility
- Portafilter: The machine uses a 54mm portafilter, specifically designed for 18-22 grams of ground coffee, making it compatible with standard espresso dosing techniques.
- Water Filter: Exclusively uses Claro Swiss filters for water filtration. Ensure you replace this filter regularly as indicated by the machine or every 2-3 months.
Care and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your Sage Barista Pro.
- Daily Cleaning:
- Portafilter & Baskets: After each use, empty and rinse the portafilter and filter baskets. Wipe them dry.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, purge the steam wand and wipe it clean with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue buildup.
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray daily.
- Weekly Cleaning:
- Group Head: Backflush the group head with a cleaning tablet (provided in the cleaning kit) to remove coffee oils. Follow the machine's cleaning cycle instructions.
- Bean Hopper: Wipe out any residual coffee oils from the bean hopper to prevent them from going rancid.
- Descaling: The machine will indicate when descaling is required. This process removes mineral buildup from the internal components. Use a descaling solution recommended for espresso machines and follow the machine's descaling program.
- Water Filter Replacement: Replace the Claro Swiss water filter regularly to maintain water quality and reduce scale.
