The WSL-1 is designed for standard clip-on lavalier microphones and is compatible with most brands of this size.
They provide excellent protection against light breezes, but in very high winds, you may still need a dedicated 'deadcat' or furry windscreen for optimal results.
It is recommended to hand wash them gently. Machine washing may damage the delicate cell structure of the acoustic foam.
You can use the colors to track which person is speaking in a multi-camera setup, or simply choose the black/grey versions for a more discreet look.
They do not reduce volume, but they do reduce noise peaks caused by wind or breath, which can lead to a cleaner overall signal-to-noise ratio.
Ensure the windscreen is pushed all the way onto the capsule. If the microphone is exceptionally small, consider a small dab of surgical tape inside the rim of the foam to create a tighter fit.
Check that the foam is not obstructing the front-facing diaphragm of the mic. Adjust the positioning so the thickest part of the foam covers the intake without pressing against the sensitive elements.
To install, gently slide the foam windscreen over the capsule of your lavalier microphone until it feels snug. Ensure the foam is centered over the diaphragm for optimal acoustic transparency. To maintain these windscreens, hand wash them in lukewarm water with a mild, fragrance-free detergent if they become soiled or damp from saliva. Gently squeeze out excess water and allow them to air dry completely before reattaching them to your microphones. Avoid twisting or pulling the foam forcefully, as this can tear the material.
