An upright, clump-forming evergreen perennial shrub, the Phormium ‘Red Sensation’ or Flax lily is a native of New Zealand with interesting year-round foliage. The leaves are flat, upright to arching, sword-shaped and dark red with occasional blooms of dull red flowers appearing on stems above the foliage in the Summer. Plant in fertile, well-drained soils and keep in full or partial sun. Low maintenance but may require some cold and frost protection in harsher Winter regions. These areas may cause dieback, but fresh growth will appear from Spring.
