Setup, Compatibility & Care
- Sowing: Sow seeds in trays or pots of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place (60-65F/15-18C).
- Covering Seeds: Lightly cover the seeds with compost.
- Sealing and Chilling: Seal the container in a polythene bag for two weeks at 60-65F (15-18C), then refrigerate (not freeze) for 3-6 weeks.
- Germination: Return to the recommended germination temperature after refrigeration. If germination does not occur within 6-10 weeks, return to the fridge for a further 3-6 weeks.
- Transplanting: Transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots when large enough to handle.
- Growing On: Grow in a cold frame.
- Planting Out: Plant the following spring, spacing plants 30cm (12in) apart in full sun.
Compatibility: French Lavender thrives in well-drained soil and full sun exposure. It pairs well with other sun-loving plants typical of Mediterranean gardens. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
Care: Water regularly until established. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Avoid overwatering. Deadhead spent flowers to promote further blooming. Provide protection from harsh winter conditions in colder climates.
