Full details
The ASICS NOVABLAST 5 TR is designed for female neutral runners who seek a versatile and energetic shoe for hybrid running across both road and light trails. Its key benefit lies in combining soft, responsive cushioning with a durable, multi-surface outsole, providing a smooth and dynamic experience for short to medium distances. While excelling in varied urban and natural environments, runners targeting highly technical trails or ultra-marathon distances may find it less specialized for those specific demands.

FAQs
What type of runner is the ASICS NOVABLAST 5 TR designed for?
It is designed for female runners with a neutral stride who enjoy hybrid running on both roads and light, non-technical trails.
What is the ideal distance for these shoes?
These shoes are best suited for short to medium distances, offering optimal performance and comfort within that range.
How does the FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO cushioning work?
It's a lightweight, responsive foam that provides soft landings and an energetic rebound, giving a bouncy feel and smooth transitions during your run.
Can I use these shoes on technical trails?
While capable on light trails, the ASICS NOVABLAST 5 TR is not designed for highly technical, rocky, or extreme off-road terrain. For such conditions, more specialized trail shoes would be recommended.
Are these shoes environmentally friendly?
Yes, at least 75% of the upper material is made from recycled content, contributing to a more sustainable design.
How much do the ASICS NOVABLAST 5 TR weigh?
The shoes weigh 240g for a size 42.
Troubleshooting
Shoes feel too tight or loose.
Ensure you have the correct size. Try adjusting the lacing pattern. If still uncomfortable, consider trying a half-size up or down, as fit can vary.
Foot discomfort during or after runs.
Check your sock choice (seamless running socks are recommended). Verify your lacing is not too tight or too loose. If you have a neutral stride and experience discomfort, consider consulting a running specialist to confirm your foot mechanics.
Reduced bounce or cushioning feel over time.
Cushioning foam naturally compresses over many miles. This is normal wear and tear. If the shoes have accumulated significant mileage (typically 300-500 miles, depending on runner and terrain), it may be time to consider replacing them.
Slippage on certain trail surfaces.
The AHAR™ LO outsole is designed for mixed surfaces, but no shoe is entirely slip-proof on extremely wet, muddy, or icy terrain. Exercise caution on such surfaces. If consistently encountering challenging conditions, you may need a shoe with more aggressive trail lugs.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Fit and Use
- Try On: When first receiving your ASICS NOVABLAST 5 TR, try them on with your preferred running socks to ensure a comfortable fit. Walk around to feel the cushioning and support.
- Lace Securely: Adjust the laces to a snug but not overly tight fit. The Tongue Wing Construction helps secure your midfoot, so avoid over-tightening.
- Break-In Period: While often comfortable from day one, allow for a short break-in period of a few short runs (e.g., 2-3 miles) to let the shoes fully mold to your feet.
Compatibility
- Runner Type: Ideal for Neutral stride runners. If you require significant stability or motion control, these shoes may not be the best fit for your specific needs.
- Surface: Designed for Hybrid running (road and trails). This includes pavement, sidewalks, compacted dirt paths, gravel trails, and light, non-technical natural trails.
- Distance: Best suited for Short to medium distances. Consider other specialized footwear for ultra-marathon distances or highly technical mountaineering trails.
Care Instructions
- Cleaning: After runs, especially on trails, gently brush off loose dirt with a soft brush (an old toothbrush works well). For deeper cleaning, wipe down the upper with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid machine washing, as this can damage the materials and construction.
- Drying: If your shoes get wet, remove the insoles and stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture. Allow them to air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, which can cause material breakdown.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid leaving them in hot cars or damp environments, which can degrade the materials over time.
- Longevity: Rotate your running shoes if you run frequently. This allows the cushioning foam to decompress and recover, potentially extending the lifespan of your NOVABLAST 5 TR.
