Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your Red Wing Classic Moc boots provide years of reliable service and comfort, proper setup and ongoing care are essential.
First Use & Break-in
- Initial Wear: Wear your boots for short periods (1-2 hours) during the first few days. This allows the leather to begin softening and conforming to your feet without causing excessive discomfort.
- Lacing: Lace your boots snugly but not overly tight. Proper lacing distributes pressure evenly and helps the boot mold to your foot's shape. Experiment with different lacing patterns if you experience pressure points.
- Expect Stiffness: The premium leather and robust construction will feel stiff. This is normal and will improve significantly over a few weeks of consistent wear.
Compatibility
These boots are designed for adult males and this specific pair is a UK size 9. They are constructed with Oro Legacy leather in a brown color family.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly brush off dirt, dust, and debris using a stiff brush. For tougher grime, use a damp cloth. Allow boots to air dry completely away from direct heat.
- Conditioning: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner, such as Red Wing Boot Oil or Leather Conditioner, every 3-6 months (or more frequently if the leather looks dry). This keeps the leather supple, prevents cracking, and replenishes natural oils. Always follow the product-specific instructions.
- Protection: For enhanced water resistance, especially in wet climates, apply a leather protector spray. This creates a barrier against moisture and stains.
- Storage: When not in use, store your boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Using cedar shoe trees can help absorb moisture and maintain the boots' original shape.
- Resoling: Thanks to the Goodyear welt, your boots can be resoled. When the Traction Tred sole wears down, take them to a reputable cobbler or authorized Red Wing repair center to extend their life.
