FAQs

Is this jacket suitable for winter mountaineering?

It is an excellent shell layer, but because of its slim fit, you should ensure your mid-layers are not too bulky.

Does the hood accommodate a helmet?

The cap-style hood is optimized for mobility and vision; it is designed to fit close to the head for high-pace activity.

How do I pack the jacket into its own pocket?

Locate the internal zipped pocket, invert the pocket lining, and gently fold the jacket into the pouch, securing it with the provided loop.

Is the jacket machine washable?

Yes, but use a gentle cycle with a specialized technical outdoor gear cleaner.

What does 3L mean in the product description?

3L stands for 3-layer construction, where the waterproof membrane is bonded between the outer fabric and an inner lining for maximum durability.

Troubleshooting

Water soaking into the fabric rather than beading

The DWR finish is likely worn out; wash the garment and apply a fresh DWR spray treatment to restore performance.

Inside of the jacket feels damp

This is often due to moisture buildup from trapped sweat. Ensure you are layering appropriately and opening vents if you start to feel overheated.

Zipper sticking or feeling stiff

Clear any debris from the zipper track and consider applying a dedicated zipper lubricant if necessary.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent balance of high-level waterproofing and breathability
Exceptional freedom of movement due to articulated cutting
Highly packable for weight-conscious hikers
Durable construction suitable for tough terrain

Cons

Slim fit limits the ability to wear bulky mid-layers underneath
Minimalist feature set prioritizes weight over extra pockets or ventilation zips

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the longevity of your Rain-Motion Jacket, keep these maintenance guidelines in mind:

Washing: Use a technical fabric cleaner or mild detergent. Avoid fabric softeners or harsh bleach, as these can strip the DWR coating.
Drying: Tumble dry on a low heat setting to help reactivate the DWR finish, or hang dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
Re-proofing: If you notice water no longer beads on the surface of the jacket, re-apply a DWR spray treatment to maintain performance.
Storage: Always store your jacket in a clean, dry condition. While it can be packed into its internal pocket for short trips, try to store it hanging or folded loosely at home to maintain the integrity of the membrane.
