Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Locate the spark plug on the engine cylinder head.
- Use a spark plug socket wrench to carefully remove the old spark plug.
- Visually inspect the new NGK BR2-LM spark plug to ensure the gap is still 0.03 inches and there is no visible damage.
- Thread the new spark plug in by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Tighten the spark plug with the wrench. Do not overtighten.
Compatibility:
This spark plug is designed for MTD 5.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engines. Always verify your engine's specifications or consult your equipment manual to confirm compatibility before purchasing. The part number is 5798.
Care:
Spark plugs are not typically 'cared' for in terms of cleaning or maintenance. They are designed to operate until they wear out or become fouled by combustion byproducts. The best practice is to inspect them during routine maintenance and replace them as recommended by the engine manufacturer or when performance issues arise.
