Vitra holds exclusive rights to manufacture their creations in Europe, ensuring authenticity. Originally conceived by the Eames in 1945 as a plywood toy for children, the complex curves of the Elephant prototype made serial production challenging. A loaned prototype was even exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1946. Later, the Eames Elephant was reimagined in plastic, making it accessible for its intended audience: children.
