Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup & Adjustments
Your Birchdale II jacket is ready to wear straight out of the package. For optimal performance and comfort, make these quick adjustments:
- Hood Adjustment: Use the adjusters on the grown-on technical hood to cinch it around your face, providing maximum protection from wind and rain while maintaining visibility.
- Cuff Adjustment: Secure the adjustable cuffs around your wrists using the hook-and-loop fasteners to prevent water and cold air from entering.
- Hem Adjustment: Pull the cords on the shock cord hem to tighten the jacket around your waist, trapping warmth and preventing updrafts.
Compatibility
This jacket is designed as a versatile outer shell. It is compatible with various layering systems, allowing you to adapt to different temperatures. Wear it over a base layer for high-output activities in mild conditions or combine it with a fleece or insulated jacket for warmth in colder weather. Its Isotex Stretch technology makes it suitable for a wide range of outdoor and active pursuits, from leisurely walks to more demanding treks.
Product Care & Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the performance of your Regatta Birchdale II jacket.
- Washing: Machine wash cold (30°C) with a technical outerwear cleaner (e.g., Nikwax Tech Wash) to preserve the DWR finish and breathability. Avoid conventional detergents, fabric softeners, and bleach.
- Drying: Tumble dry on low heat or line dry. If using a tumble dryer, reactivate the DWR finish by tumbling dry for 20 minutes on a warm setting after the garment is dry.
- Re-proofing: Over time, the Durable Water-Repellent finish may wear off. If water no longer beads on the surface, apply a DWR re-proofing treatment (e.g., Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In or Spray-On) following the product instructions.
- Storage: Store your jacket clean and dry in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
- Zippers: Regularly clean the hi-tech water-repellent zips to remove dirt and grit, which can cause sticking. Lubricate with a zipper lubricant if necessary.
