Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Lacing: Ensure your shoes are laced securely but comfortably. A good lacing technique prevents slippage within the shoe and reduces pressure points. Experiment with different lacing patterns if you experience discomfort.
- Break-in Period: While often comfortable out of the box, it's advisable to wear your new Pegasus Trail 5 for a few shorter runs before tackling longer distances or more challenging terrain. This allows the shoes to mold to your feet and ensures you're accustomed to their feel.
Compatibility
These shoes are designed primarily for:
- Technical Dirt Roads: Excellent for gravel paths, compacted earth trails, and forest roads.
- Short Asphalt Stretches: Capable of handling pavement for transitional sections or short road runs.
- Mixed Terrain: Ideal for routes that combine moderate trails with some road segments.
They are less suited for:
- Extremely rocky or root-heavy technical mountain trails.
- Deep mud or very slippery, wet conditions where deeper lugs are required.
- Very long road runs where more dedicated road cushioning might be preferred.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care extends the life of your trail running shoes:
- Cleaning: After a run, especially on muddy trails, knock off any loose dirt or debris. Use a soft brush (an old toothbrush works well) and lukewarm water with a mild soap to gently clean the upper and outsole. Avoid harsh detergents.
- Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all soap residue.
- Drying: Air dry your shoes at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or using heat sources (like radiators or tumble dryers), as this can damage materials and adhesives. Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
